Proposal

Two changes to how the Charger ART plans, from PI 27.1 on:

  1. Long-lead work is planned one PI ahead. At PI planning n, HW Base names every mold and long-lead part the features of PI n+1 will need; Supply Chain attends PI planning, takes the list, and the tooling dates go on the dependency board like any other dependency. Design freeze for a mold stays at the DFM Review, not at planning.
  2. The plant joins the release. The Manufacturing Lead becomes a participant of PI planning and the System Demo, not a guest; fixture work starts when a feature is demoed, not when the release package arrives; and a ramp-readiness check at every System Demo lifts the plant’s status back into the train.

Neither Supply Chain nor Manufacturing joins the ART as a team. They join its planning.

Objections

  • Wen Zhao: committing to tooling one PI ahead means ordering molds for designs that may still change — addressed by committing the item and its date at planning and the geometry at the DFM review, where it is frozen today anyway.
  • Greta Vossberg: two more parties make PI planning longer — accepted; the long-lead board is prepared before the event, not built in it.
  • Marit Solberg asked whether this is the moment to give production its own FL2 or to merge it into the train’s board — deferred: run two PIs with the lighter change first.

Outcome

Consented at the Portfolio Sync on 2026-10-06. Recorded as Production Joins the Train’s Planning; operationalized by Long-Lead Commitment at PI Planning and Ramp Readiness Review, both in force from the PI 27.1 planning on 2026-12-03.

## Proposal
Two changes to how the [[Charger ART]] plans, from PI 27.1 on:
1. **Long-lead work is planned one PI ahead.** At PI planning *n*, [[HW Base]] names every
mold and long-lead part the features of PI *n+1* will need; [[Supply Chain]] attends PI
planning, takes the list, and the tooling dates go on the dependency board like any other
dependency. Design freeze for a mold stays at the [[DFM Review]], not at planning.
2. **The plant joins the release.** The [[Manufacturing Lead]] becomes a participant of PI
planning and the [[System Demo]], not a guest; fixture work starts when a feature is
demoed, not when the release package arrives; and a ramp-readiness check at every
System Demo lifts the plant's status back into the train.
Neither Supply Chain nor Manufacturing joins the ART as a team. They join its planning.
## Objections
- [[Wen Zhao]]: committing to tooling one PI ahead means ordering molds for designs that
may still change — addressed by committing the *item and its date* at planning and the
*geometry* at the DFM review, where it is frozen today anyway.
- [[Greta Vossberg]]: two more parties make PI planning longer — accepted; the long-lead
board is prepared before the event, not built in it.
- [[Marit Solberg]] asked whether this is the moment to give production its own FL2 or to
merge it into the train's board — deferred: run two PIs with the lighter change first.
## Outcome
Consented at the [[Portfolio Sync]] on 2026-10-06. Recorded as
[[Production Joins the Train's Planning]]; operationalized by
[[Long-Lead Commitment at PI Planning]] and [[Ramp Readiness Review]], both in force from
the PI 27.1 planning on 2026-12-03.
